More opt for holiday home.

HOLIDAYS homes are no longer the preserve of the rich and famous with more Britons snapping up a second property, a study revealed.

About 3.5 million people now own a holiday home with 28per cent choosing to buy in the UK, according to Halifax Estate Agents.

The idea of staying close to home is especially popular with those living in Wales and the South West with 42per cent of those with a second home opting for a UK property.

A third of holiday homeowners from northern England and the Midlands have also bought in the UK.

And more than half of those aged between 35 and 44 opt for a pied-a-terre elsewhere in the UK.

But Spain still appeals with 16per cent of Britons investing in a home in the sun.
