More intensive study of foreign languages in regions, of Kyrgyz language in Bishkek suggested in Parliament.

"I support the idea that our children need to learn foreign languages. But children should be fluent primarily in their native language," MP Ziyadin Jamaldinov said in Parliament today.

The person speaking the native language can easily learn other languages, he said.

"I think it is wrong that our children do not know their mother tongue. There are more than 100 schools in the capital city and only 5 of them have Kyrgyz language of instruction. We need to open mixed language schools," he suggested.

The lawmaker suggested to intensify study of foreign languages in the regions and learning of the Kyrgyz language in Bishkek.

Children should begin learning Kyrgyz since kindergarten, MP Omurbek Bakirov (SDPK) said.

There is a small number of schools with Kyrgyz language of instruction in urban areas, he said.
