AS the war in Syria draws to a close the West is about to risk starting world war three.
I find it sad and hypocritical that the US, UK and France are claiming the moral high ground on the basis of an alleged gas attack by the Syrian regime supported by Russia.
After all, it was not the Russians who invaded Iraq. A conflict that has cost hundreds of thousands of lives, including men women and children.
It was not the Russians who armed and trained rebel fighters in Syria, most of whom hate the West.
It was not the Russians who invaded Libya and plunged the country into chaos and caused a flood refugees to flee to the EU.
It's not the Russians killing thousands of civilians in the Yemen, which, after three years of conflict, is facing a humanitarian catastrophe.
It's not the Russians who supply Saudi Arabia with the planes and cluster bombs used to kill innocent women and children.
Yes, of course it's wrong to use gas attacks on innocent people, as it is to use cluster bombs and missiles.
But Trump's threat to use new, smart missiles is not because he is morally outraged, it is purely political and based on the fact that Russian intervention in Syria is bringing the war to an end; but not the end that the West wanted. Bryan D Prescott Caerphilly
