Mood disorder research travels; BREAKING HEALTH newsbulletin.

JAPAN will follow Wales' lead and set up a network of researchers to investigate the causes of mood disorders.

Modelled on Cardiff University's Bipolar Disorder Research Network, the Japanese group will also bring together policy-makers and patients interested in gaining greater understanding, treating and changing attitudes towards mood disorders.

Professor Nick Craddock, who leads the Cardiff network, said the implications of the recent tsunami in Japan brought into focus the need for extra support for people in the country who suffer or may suffer with mood disorders.

"Japan already has a series of significant challenges - most notably, the high number of suicides among the male population."
