Monty's in the swing.

COLIN MONTGOMERIE has made a late decision to play in next week's Spanish Open in Girona.

Europe's Ryder Cup captain had to ask for an invitation to play because he had not previously entered.

He joins former Open champion John Daly in being given an invitation, with the American playing his first event of the year.

Montgomerie has not had a top-10 finish since he was runner-up in the French Open last June and has fallen to 155th in the world.

Lynn Kenny and Clare Queen steered Scotland into a share of seventh place after an opening three-under par 69 in yesterday's fourballs at the Comunitat Valenciana European Nations Cup in Spain.

Kylie Walker (Buchanan Castle), Laura Murray (Alford), and Pamela Pretswell (Bothwell Castle) are in action in Troon this weekend looking to become only the third Scot in the last 16 years to win the Helen Holm Scottish women's open amateur stroke-play championship..
