Montenegro : Montenegro met criteria for admission to International Hydrographic Organization.

On the occasion of admission of Montenegro to IHO, Acting Director General for multilateral affairs and regional cooperation Damir Grbovic met with Director of International Hydrographic Organization IHO Mustafa Iptes.

Director of International Hydrographic Organization IHO Mustafa Iptes presented mission, structure and project activities of IHO and stated that the Organization has 81 members at the moment, and its main role is mapping of maritime zones, security of navigation and environment protection.

He emphasized that Montenegro had met criteria for admission to IHO and that is expected to become equal member of the organization as soon as possible by submitting official request.

IHO is directed to development of blue economy- considering the fact that 80% of the world trade is carried out over marine ways, and that coastal zones are of great economic importance for tourism, nautical science and exploitation of mineral fuels Iptes emphasized.

Acting Director General for multilateral affairs and regional cooperation Damir Grbovi? expressed satisfaction with the visit of Director Iptes and emphasized extraordinary interest of Montenegro for admission to IHO.

He expressed readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration to cooperate in its full capacity with all involved state institutions in order for admission to IHO to be finalized in time, and to optimally coordinate participation of our representatives in the working groups of IHO and Commission for the Mediterranean.
