Monica on the road to recovery.

A Johnstone woman who fell off a balcony in Ibiza has woken from her induced coma.

Monica McGeachie was in Ibiza to celebrate her 30th birthday with her brother and friends.

She fell out of a first floor window which didn't have a glass pane in it and onto the concrete surface below.

Doctors put her into an induced coma when the accident happened on Sunday, July 28 while they treated her brain trauma, fractured shoulder, wrist and ankles.

A friend set up a JustGiving page to support her family while they're out in Ibiza which has raised more than PS10,000.

And her sister JoAnne updated supporters saying Monica is awake and is responding well to treatment.

She said: "Although we're not sure when she will be able to come home, we'd like to say thank you to everyone.

"Your kind words and support have been amazing for our family."

Monica, who moved to Johnstone from her hometown of Dunoon a year ago, works as a diver and doctors said her fitness and good health will help with her recovery.

JoAnne said "The hospital has been absolutely amazing.

"We don't know how long Monica is going to be here, it just depends on how she is.

"We have no timescale." ?To donate to Monica's fundraising, go to monicamheachie This is YOUR paper..
