At night, a special piece of conch shell magically turns Molly into a mermaid and takes her to the wonderful Undersea Kingdom where some sea creatures have completely disappeared. Now the dolphins are missing and Aisha, their mermaid keeper, and Molly search for them, helped by Molly's 'animal charm' given her by a friendly walrus last summer. They find the dolphins have been reduced to a minute size and are totally enclosed within a shell--how can they be released? Other sea creatures are asked to help, but a very scary monster is also encountered; eventually, grumpy seagulls respond to Molly's plea and crack open the sea shell imprisoning the dolphins.

This story is encased in a school project on animals, Molly being assigned dolphins; at the end, Molly gives a fantastic presentation on dolphins--very realistic, because she actually swam with dolphins when they were released and had regained their normal size.

This book is one of a long series of Molly's underwater adventures and is sure to appeal to girls who are able to read by themselves and who enjoy the 'same' story with variations; the accompanying illustrations enhance the text.
