Moment of clarity: the southern situation.

Fly or drive? It's the million-dollar question for fun-seekers this summer. Both will cost you, but I'd rather sit in traffic with my favorite tunes than risk spinal-chord damage sleeping on a row of partitioned seats at Gate 22 during a six-hour delay. Besides, summer is all about the road trip, and many of your favorite artists from the dirty South are bringing heat from US-1 to 1-65. After much pomp and circumstance, Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III will finally (probably) drop. Can arguably the most popular MC on the planet spin his freestyle-phenom status into a classic collection? Or has his time sunbathing in Miami made him soft? David Banner has been waiting to tell the Greatest Story Ever Told for some time, and his first single, "Speaker," sounds like the rage is finally out of the cage. Oscar winners Three 6 Mafia are back to raise insurance premiums at a club near you with their latest record, Last 2 Walk. If you've been living under a rock, just clear your throat and give their head-nodding single "I'd Rather" a spin to see what (or who) is going down. Those boys from Kentucky Nappy Roots are back with The Humdinger, the long overdue follow-up to their 2003 release, Wooden Leather. The Humdinger's bouncy first single, "No Static," has made it into my "morning coffee" playlist. Last, but certainly not least, new jacks Young Dro and Plies will have the Sidekick and patent-leather-sneaker set bouncing down the boulevard to Young and the Restless and Definition of Real, respectively. So check your tires, change your oil, and drop your tops. Fill up the tank, or make those flight reservations. As for me, the open road is calling.
