Modeling Community Containment for Pandemic Influenza.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies has released Modeling Community Containment for Pandemic Influenza--A Letter Report, which discusses influenza pandemic models and use of those models to predict the effects that various community containment policies might have on disease transmission. The report was compiled by the Committee on Modeling Community Containment for Pandemic Influenza and the Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice. It includes information on influenza epidemiology, models of containment strategies for pandemic influenza, evaluations of models for community containment, historical analyses, lessons from simulation models, discussion of the role that containment strategies can play, and an examination of the impact those strategies might have on communities.
