Model Town tragedy JIT informed, SP Khan ordered to open fire on PAT\'s demonstrators.
LAHORE -- A Joint Investigation Team (JIT), having unclear and restricted probing charter, has been informed on Friday that Superintendent Police (SP) Salman Ali Khan ordered police personnel to open fire on the demonstrating male, female, youth and old-age workers amid Model Town clashes on 17 June.
Elite force in-charge Abdur Rauf stated before the JIT that Khan compelled police men on the scene to open fire on the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) demonstrators and target their legs which resulted bloodshed of around dozen protestors and injuring around 80.
Defending the security personnel, Rauf said that they were unwilling to open fire fearing of causalities. SHO, Sheikh Amir Saleem, reported khan about police men reluctance in opening fire. Upon this, Khan ordered again to open fire and security personnel followed that, Rauf informed the JIT adding that the personnel fired around 200 rounds at the protesters.

statements of 34 more officers today.
In addition, the JIT had detained nine policemen for their alleged role in the deaths of the PAT workers on July 11.
Eight Elite Force personnel and Sabzazar SHO inspector Sheikh Amir Saleem were among the detainees who were not allowed to leave after recording their statements.
