Mobile charges below EU average.

DOMESTIC mobile phone charges in Cyprus are below the EU average as figures released yesterday revealed a difference of 774 per cent from the cheapest to the most expensive in the EU.

According to the figures, a call in Cyprus averages out at 7.6 cents per minute according to the European Commission, 1.5 cent lower than the European average of 9.1 cents per minute.

According to the Commission there is a 774 per cent difference in phone call prices across the EU with Lithuania being the cheapest country, at 2.0 cents a minute and The Netherlands the most expensive at 14.7 cents a minute.

European commission Vice president Neelie Kroes said the numbers indicated that the 28 national telecom markets in Europe were not benefiting consumers as a single market would and that it was critical for the whole of the EU to move quickly to build a real single market.
