The Little Mo domestic abuse storyline in EastEnders was today hailed as the most significant TV portrayal of violence in the home in 30 years of campaigning.

A new study claimed the media has played a 'ground-breaking' role in heightening public awareness of domestic violence. But it warned the message is failing to reach men.

The research, by Glasgow Caledonian University media expert Emily Seymour for the National Domestic Violence Helpline, found television programmes had increasingly set the agenda in publicising the issue.
