Mixed picture for Abu Dhabi hotels.

More than 1.7 million hotel guests have stayed in Abu Dhabi so far this year, new figures show - a 15 per cent hike on the same period in 2011.

However, the rise is failing to keep pace with hotel capacity - with occupancy levels across the emirate on for the first nine months of this year down 7 per cent to an average of 63 per cent.

Numbers released by Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority revealed that 1.74 million stayed in the emirate's 131 hotels and hotel apartments in the first nine months of this year.

At three days, the average length of stay of the emirate's hotel guests was marginally up on the year before.

Overall, the hotel sector's revenues grew by 3 per cent to Dhs3.15 billion.
