Mix & mold technique works with carbon fiber.

Pushtrusion direct in-line long-fiber thermoplastic (D-LFT) compounding and molding technology now has been tested successfully with carbon fibers. So reports PlastiComp LLC, Winona. Minn., which licenses the technology and supplies proprietary equipment. Both long and short carbon fibers have been tested with Pushtrusion at 15% to 25% loadings in PBT and TPU. Further experiments are planned in PPS. nylon. and other engineering thermoplastics. As we reported in December. compounding long fibers on the injection molding machine saves up to 30% compared with the cost of pre-compounded long-fiber pellets.
