Manufacturer and marketer of electrical and electronic equipment, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO:6503) declared on Thursday that it is to raise the prices of its general-purpose AC servo motors and computerised numerical controllers (CNCs) globally resulting from soaring prices of rare-earth minerals.

The company said that with China regulating rare-earth mineral exports, prices for neodymium a key material for AC servo motors and other rare-earth resources have risen and it is unable to fully absorb the excessive increases in its material costs.

Therefore the prices of general-purpose AC servo motors will rise by 20% and CNCs, that includes the CPU, display terminal input/output unit, drive-unit and other equipment comprising the system, will be increased by 10% for orders received as of 4 January 2012 or late in Japan.
