Mitel launches SAR chip for broadband networks.

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-17 January 2001-Mitel launches SAR chip for broadband networks (C)1994-2001 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Mitel Corp's Mitel Semiconductor division has launched what it claims to be the world's highest density ATM Adaptation Layer Type 2 (AAL2) segmentation and re-assembly (SAR) chip.

The MT90502 device is designed to provide a high-bandwidth solution for combined voice and data services in multi-service switching platforms, 3G mobile system equipment, carrier-class gateways, next-generation digital loop carriers and ATM edge switches.

The product simultaneously processes 1023 CIDs and 1023 VCCs which, according to Mitel, is more than any device available on the market. Other features include support for both compressed and uncompressed voice and the provision of a full SONET link at 155Mb/s capacity in VoDSL and 3G cellular equipment when two of the MT90502 devices are cascaded.

The MT90502 AAL2 SAR is currently sampling, priced at USD200 in quantities of 1,000 units.
