Missing the killer Punch; MOVIES.
THE WEDDING VIDEO Cert 15, 94mins If there's one up-and-coming actress destined for big, big things, it's our very own Lucy Punch. With impeccable comic timing and a seeming inability to be never less than hilarious, she's one name to watch.
Alas, this patchy Brit-com isn't likely to be her breakout role. She plays the nouveau riche Saskia whose wedding preparations are videoed by the groom's brother/best man (Rufus Hound).
With the bride's socially-aspirant mum (Miriam Margoyles) determined to make this the wedding of the century, all involved face soaring stress levels, not helped by skeletons that come clattering from closets.
There are about a dozen laughs throughout with long stretches inbetween, but at least Punch (Bad Teacher, You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger) makes the most of the hitand-miss script. Meanwhile Robert Webb as the groom is on autopilot, coasting along with his Peep Show shtick, while Hound's puppy-dog enthusiasm wears awfully thin awfully quickly. I now pronounce you missable.
