Miss Colombia accepts defeat, congratulates PH.
"I also want to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe. The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible," says Gutierrez.
The Colombian representative wore the Miss Universe crown for about three minutes before host Steve Harvey admitted the mix-up in the announcement of winners, transferring the crown to Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, during the Sunday night (Monday morning, Manila time) pageant held at Planet Hollywood and Casino in Las Vegas.
Together with a photo of herself, the post has garnered over 75,000 likes as of this posting, and over 8,000 comments.
After the storm comes the calm. I want to thank each and every one of you who have sent messages of support and strength. Every one of you has become an incredible human being in my book and I am the most fortunate and thankful for having the support not only from one country but from the whole entire world. Your destiny is written for you. And my destiny was this. I was able to bring happiness to my country after becoming Miss Universe for only a couple of minutes... Today because of that COLOMBIA and the LATIN COMMUNITY are being talked about in every corner of the world. I also want to congratulate the Philippines for their new Miss Universe. The happiness that you must be feeling must be incredible. Life continues and in the future we will find out why things happen the way they happen. Thank you all for your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS.
Accessorizeguru commented at the post, saying "At first, I sympathized with you, but watching all the footages of the show, I was disappointed!! You were my best best bet! You are so beautiful, But you DONT PROJECT AS REAL MISS UNIVERSE! It would have been a great scene if you HUMBLED yourself and took off the crown and sash by yourself and didn't wait for others to do it for you."
Thesolotravelist also pointed out that Gutierrez never became Miss Universe and advised her to "be humble enough to accept that and stop embarrassing yourself further by showing how arrogant you are."
Filipinos also flocked to the Instagram post's comment section, some still hating on the Colombian contestant, while others calling for peace between both camp's supporters.
"My fellow filipinos, pls stop the hate.. She's just also a victim.. Let's all be happy for her and Pia," says a Filipino netizen.
On Tuesday, Gutierrez uploaded a photo of herself with the Miss Universe crown through the same medium, saying "This moments will always be with me #missuniverse #misscolombia #backtoback Lo logramos COLOMBIA!"
With 265,000 likes and over 91,291 comments, the post has caused further frenzy in the online community, with some questioning her use of the words "back to back" even though the crown really belonged to Wurtzbach.
Over Twitter, netizens also voiced out their take on the rift between Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines:
