BIRS (the Banff International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery) was founded in 2003, and held its first conference in December of that year. Mathematicians and mathematical physicists present 24 papers--some delivered at the conference and others solicited later--on mirror symmetry, or more generally string theory. They discuss such topics as a rational map between two threefolds, families of Calabi-Yau varieties, and monodromy calculations of fourth-order equations of Calabi-Yau type. There is no index.
