Mirror M@ilbox: ECSTATIC PUNTERS.

Byline: Jim Denman

CONGRATULATIONS on your centenary. I remember with affection the Daily Mirror Punters Club.

I won a prize for naming a racehorse. My son and I caught the train to London and met the president of the Club at a hotel in Fleet Street.

We drove in his Jag to Newbury for the racing and then spent the night at The Grand in Brighton. The following day we went to the stables of the legendary Captain Price who was training the horse and then on to meet Mrs Oughton, who trained horses for the Grand National. The horse was called Prince Lightning - sadly it only raced once and was injured.
