Ministry raises agriculture shows profiles.
The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security has embarked on an initiative to raise the profile of the agricultural shows to promote agriculture development.
The Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Constantinos Markus, told Parliament that one of the ministry efforts in promoting agricultural shows was to include a variety of exhibits across other sectors of the economy that had a direct link with agriculture.
Mr Markus said the ministry would extend invitation to agricultural entrepreneurs from other countries with a view to share and exchange ideas on the dynamic and emerging agricultural best practices.
Mr Markus said the incorporation of workshop exhibits where onsite learning and or training takes place at the shows was one of the ministry's aim in improving the agricultural shows.
Another way of improving the district shows, Mr Markus said, was to sponsor show committee members to some of the neighbouring countries to attend similar events to improve their knowledge on how to run the shows locally. He said the show committee members had been exposed to ways of leveraging funding from investors in the agricultural industry so that they could better fund their events.
Mochudi East MP, Mr Moagi Molebatsi had asked the minister to apprise Parliament on what his ministry was doing to improve the District Agricultural shows.
