Ministry of Transport and Communications Signs MMU.

Amman, Jan 29 (ONA)---The Ministry of Transport and Communications, represented by the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs, today signed a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding (MMU) for certificates issued to seafarers working on board ships with the competent maritime authority in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the Jordanian capital of Amman, where Rashid bin Mohammed al-Kiyoumi, Director General of Health Affairs signed on behalf of the Ministry. This memorandum is signed pursuant to the provisions of the International Convention on standards of training and certification for seafarers working at sea in 1978 and its amendments, joined by the Sultanate in accordance with Royal Decree No. 65/90, in addition to the Law for Regulation of Navigation in the Omani Territorial Waters issued by the Royal Decree No. (98/81), has organized in part V the provisions of competence certificates, mechanism of issuance and cancelling. The Memorandum included several articles on the competence certification requirements of both parties, as well as to stop or withdraw or cancel the adoption of authentication certificates of competence. The Memorandum also included the visiting procedures between the two sides and to verify the validity of certificates of competence and forms approved by both parties. It is noteworthy that the Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs is currently studying the signing of memorandums of understanding with some Arab and foreign States. ----Ends/MN/FS
