Ministry Takes Notice of Psychiatrist,C?Shortage at Sharjah Hospital.

Summary: DUBAI - Minister of Health Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qutami on Thursday told Khaleej Times that a psychiatrist would soon be appointed at the Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah.

oWe will provide them a psychiatrist very soon, probably in a weekAEs time. These things usually take time as it involves HR policies and meetings as well. We are looking into the matter,o Qutami said.

The ministerAEs response came following a Khaleej Times report on Thursday which highlighted that the only government psychiatric clinic in the emirate lacked psychiatrists.

The mental health services in Kuwaiti Hospital has been hit for months after the head of the psychiatric department resigned and another psychiatrist went on long leave for higher studies.

The hospital was providing the service of a psychiatrist from Al Amal Hospital in Dubai two days a week.

The report had also quoted an Indian national who said his friend was issued a prescription by a general practitioner when she actually wanted to seek some advice from a psychiatrist.

The minister also assured to investigate the matter of physicians prescribing medicines to psychiatric patients.
