Minister reviews regional health authorities' draft bill.
LAHORE -- Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid on Thursday said the purpose of the constitution of regional health authorities (RHAs) was to improve the chain of command between the district and the provincial level.
She expressed these views while reviewing the proposed draft bill for the establishment of RHAs in a meeting. The minister said the RHAs would be established in each divisional headquarters.
She also reiterated that the Punjab government was committed to enhance and improve the service delivery at the grassroots level.
'Under the proposed bill, each RHA will comprise of nine members and any member could hold this post for two consecutive tenures of five years. There must be a prohibition of the third term,' Dr Rashid said.
During the meeting, various prospects and objectives of the proposed RHAs were discussed. 'Only senior doctors and eminent local figures should become members of RHA,' she remarked. The minister also said the Punjab government wanted to empower local health authorities for the smooth and effective provision of health facilities. 'All the stakeholders were taken into the loop to give the RHAs bill more perspective. Before tabling the draft in the Punjab Cabinet, all aspects would be considered thoroughly,' she concluded.
