Minister in attack on VHI rises.
By RICHIE TAYLOR A GOVERNMENT minister has blasted the VHI for its planned price hike and called for a rethink.Junior minister Dara Calleary said the health insurer should review why it was loading premiums, for older people in particular.
The new prices will see two thirds of VHI customers having to pay an average of 15 per cent more per month with others having to deal with a rise of 45 per cent.
Meanwhile, former VHI chief executive Vincent Sheridan has criticised Health Minister Mary Harney over the delay in drafting legislation to deal with community rating.
He said he was alarmed by the increases and claimed the fundamental problem was a lack of Government support for community rating for the past 10 years.
