Minister: Lebanese energy strategy is first in region.
BEIRUT: Water and Energy Minister Jibran Bassil announced Tuesday the completion of the preparatory phase of the national strategy for energy and said that Lebanon has become the first Arab country to adopt such a strategy. Bassil cited the most important items of the strategy and said that it includes the ratification of a law for the conservation of energy which is considered to be at the basis of the sector's infrastructure. He added that the strategy also includes the replacement of regular bulbs by energy saving ones. He added that the wind energy atlas, which will determine the best locations in Lebanon for the production of energy by the use of wind, will be ready next month. Other items of the strategy include the launching of awareness campaigns on the importance of energy preservation. --The Daily Star
