Miniaturized ICs Produced by Nano-Transistors.
"As the transistors get smaller, classical theories of electronic physics fail to account for the behavior of electronic devices. Therefore, acquaintance with modern electronic physics and quantum mechanics seems necessary to understand electronic nano devices," Zoheir Kordrostami, a member of the research group, told INIC."Accordingly, a research was conducted in nanotechnology research center of Shiraz University with the primary goal of familiarization with modern methods in electronics for performance evaluation of nano-metric devices and to study the behavior of a carbon nanotube transistor under strain," he added.Kordrostami first obtained potential energy distribution functions for electrons and holes along the channel analytically.Investigating the effects of device dimensions, he came across some considerable changes in energy diagrams and managed to study the effect of three different types of mechanical strain upon energy gaps of carbon nanotube transistors and to calculate the channel chirality and concerning currents.The research results can be used to predict effects of probable strains exerted on miniaturized transistors during production processes.
