Miller and Molson trying to halt sales of Labatt product.

Molson Cos. of Canada and the Miller Brewing Co. have filed for an injunction in a Canadian federal court to stop the sales of Labatt Brewing Co.'s new Labatt Genuine Draft in Canada.

In the suit, first reported in last week's Wall Street Journal, the two brewers allege that Labatt is attempting to "deceive purchasers and the public" with packaging designs similar to Miller Genuine Draft. Under a contract agreement, Molson Cos. brews Miller Genuine Draft in Canada.

Labatt launched its brand in Toronto in mid-March.

Specifically, the complaint noted that Labatt utilizes a gold and black label with red, white and silver accents - similar to Miller's package. Also, the brewers said Labatt makes use of an "icy" image in its advertising, similar to Miller's "Into the Cold" theme.
