Miller, TV station begin sponsorship

Miller Brewing Co. and Milwaukee's WIN-TV Channel 12 recently announced plans to award scholarships to two local high school students as part of Miller Lite's sponsorship of the Luther Vandross New Year's Eve show.

One dollar from each ticket sold for the concert was matched by Miller and WISN-TV and donated to the Thurgood Marshall Fund.

To support this fundraising effort, public-service announcements aired on WISN as part of the station's "Great Expectations" series. The PSAs featured Jeanette Mitchell, Milwaukee school board president; Mike Anderson, Channel 12 anchorman; and Vandross.

"This New Year's Eve concert was especially important to us at Miller because the scholarship funds raised through this concert will benefit our neighbors," said Noel Hankin, Miller's director of marketing relations.
