Military drops bombs at terrorists' lair in Maguindanao.

By Martin Sadongdong

In a bid to crush local terror groups operating in Mindanao, the military launched Saturday morning intense surgical air, artillery and ground operations at identified terrorists' lair in Maguindanao.

Major Arvin Encinas, chief of the Public Affairs Office of the Philippine Army's 6th Infantry Division (6ID), said troops from the Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) conducted intensified military operations at Sitio Tatak, Barangay Tugal, Sultan Sa Barongis, Maguindanao around 6 a.m.

Encinas said the JTFC targeted the bunkers and foxholes of members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF). The bunkers and foxholes house around 20 Daesh-inspired terrorists under the command of Salahudin Hassan.

Hassan was among the respondents in a criminal complaint filed by the Socsksargen Police Regional Office (PRO-12) against Abu Toraife, a self-proclaimed commander of Islamic State (ISIS)-inspired faction of BIFF.

The complaint was in relation to a bombing incident in an internet cafe in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on September 2, 2018 which resulted to the death of two individuals and wounding of 14 others.

According to Encinas, the military has yet to receive information from the ground as to any report of casualty on the side of the government troops and the enemy.

However, he noted that the focused military operations resulted to the destruction of the terrorists' bunkers and safe houses.

Major General Cirilito Sobejana, JTFC Commander, said all troops were already placed in full alert status after they received an intelligence report that about 40 foreign terrorists managed to sneak into the country. (
