CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- A militant leader was arrested after allegedly throwing stones at two policemen during a protest rally on Wednesday at the Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) Compound in Brgy. Balete, Tarlac City.
Florida "Pong" Sibayan, a leader of SAKDAL, KADAMAY, ANAK-PAWIS, and AMGL, is now under the custody of Tarlac Police as she faces charges for malicious mischief, direct assault, serious disobedience, and resistance to an agent of person in authority, Supt. Fe Grenas Police Regional Police spokesperson said.
The two cops, SPO1 Rolly Guiang Marzan, 38, member of Sta Ignacia Municipal Police Station (MPS), and PO1 Arnold John Ilagan Abella, 23, of PNP-Provincial Public Safety Company, needed to be stitched to close the deep gashes on their heads.
PRO3 Grenas said even as the police exercised maximum tolerance in preventing the protesters led by Sibayan and Leonardo Mendoza from entering the bank compound, around 150 militant members became unruly and destroyed the perimeter fence of the compound. The militant protesters then started hurling rocks at the authorities.
Twelve 12 spans of the concrete perimeter fence of RCBC were destroyed using sledge hammers and farm equipment. Damage to property was pegged at P1.6 million.
The PNP continue to secure the area as well as maintain peace and order on site.
