Mike is loving United's journey.

Byline: LEE RYDER

MIKE WILLIAMSON is happy to keep living in a "surreal" world after helping Newcastle beat mighty Arsenal.

The Toon defender is living the dream, with this career high some distance from his days on the lower league circuit playing for Torquay and Wycombe Wanderers.

However, Williamson is far from a passenger and one of the reasons why United are flying high in the Premier League.

And even watching England boss Fabio Capello must have been impressed with the Stoke-born defender's contribution.

Williamson told the Chronicle: "The highs just keep coming.

"I knew stepping up into this league there'd be some unbelievable moments, and there'd also be some low moments.

"So far, it hasn't ceased to amaze me. It's a bit of a surreal journey at the minute."

Newcastle more than matched Arsenal, and Williamson added: "Coming to the Emirates, everybody knew what to expect.

"They were going to have the majority of possession, but they had to deal with it individually, and as a team.

"We had to keep our discipline and limit their chances, which I think we did superbly.

"We know Andy and Shola up front are going to cause problems for anyone - they're such a presence.

"We had to just keep our discipline and keep going, and we knew Andy would take one of his chances, which he did.

"It's challenge after challenge, and I feel as though I'm doing well and doing myself justice.

"I feel I'm growing as a person and as a player.

"It's a special thing the boys have got here. We're a very close-knit group, and I think it showed."
