Microsoft unveils free web-based software for small firms.
Details of free web-based software for small companies have been released by software giant Microsoft.
Microsoft is providing Office Live, which gives businesses a domain name, Microsoft hosted web site and company e-mail addresses and aims to help companies increase their online presence. It is designed for businesses with up to ten employees and will be available from 21 November in the UK.
The software is part of Microsoft's strategy to compete with applications offered by Internet companies such as Google, which provide software on-demand over the Internet.
The online service has been integrated with Microsoft's existing Office programs, such as Accounting Express, which is used for financial tasks. Companies can pay a subscription fee for Office Live which will entitle them to additional web storage space and other programs.
