Michael's got a date with photo success.

GIFTED amateur Teesside photographer and bookshop worker Michael Hampson has created a jolly good calendar photo yarn - in fact a brace of them.

Michael, assistant manager at The Guisborough Bookshop, on Chalenor Street, Guisborough, has put together a handy A4 sized calendar of the world famous Saltburn Yarn Stormers and their cute pier character exploits.

And he's also completed a moody and skilful A3 sized Guisborough and Surrounding Area calendar of the changing seasons, showing prominent local landmarks as you may not have seen them before.

It has taken him years to complete and the superb monthly images include snow scenes at Gisborough Priory, spectacular Roseberry Topping views and spring and summer shots, including at Saltburn - it's an artistic feast of clever and patiently-sought digital images.

The calendars, priced at PS7.99 and PS9.99, respectively, are already proving popular, produced by the enterprising store owners Lloyd and Kirsty Brooks, who also run the Priory bistro next door.

Michael, 42, of Skelton, has worked at the bookshop for 26 years, but has always had a flair for photography.

He said: "I started using film and slides and progressed to digital.

"The calendar of local views has taken me many years to compile and I thought I would also do one on the mystery Saltburn knitters group.

"Their pier-based creations are amazing!

"I started off with local view greeting cards and those sold well. It's very satisfying now to see these calendars finished and in print. We also have prints available of many of the local images.

"My favourite Yarn Stormer photos are the mermaid on the cover and the seagull - he's my favourite one of all."

The items are exclusive to the bookshop, one of the biggest in the region.

Michael is largely self-taught, although he attended classes at Marton College several years ago.
