Metalcasting Presentation Given to Boeing Engineers.

On January 25, a presentation was conducted for 150 mechanical engineers, designers, stress engineers and purchasing employees of the Boeing Co.'s Everett, Washington plant. The program was presented by Wayne Rasmussen, AFS, and John Griffin, Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), including discussions of appropriate casting processes and examples of applications and properties, applications of the 'casting factor," needs for foundry evaluation and sources of reference materials available through AFS.

Griffin made presentations on the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC) programs that are starting at UAB under AFS steering efforts. These included digital radiography and fluid flow modeling.

Following the presentation, Rasmussen and Griffin met with several Boeing engineers and program managers to discuss their participation in the UAB digital radiography project, which is sponsored by AMC and Dept. of Defense.
