Metal medley.
Byline: John Mahon IIICOLUMN: TEN THINGS TO DO
Avenged Sevenfold, Dream Theater, Fozzy, Stuck Mojo and Symphony X constitute a fairly wide range of metal styles, but they surprisingly blend together without sounding too contrived. Adrenaline Mob - a supergroup comprised of members of the aforementioned bands - mixes together ingredients from each, to great effect. The power metal vocals sharply contrast from the groove metal riffing, and the technical guitar solos sound strange over the simplistic breakdowns, but the songs end up comparable to a well-assorted platter, as opposed to a bad-tasting mess carelessly processed in a blender. It might not be the easiest music to swallow for rock and metal fans who stick to the traditions, but for those with an open mind and a curiosity for something unusual and new, Adrenaline Mob could be an enticing attraction. Adrenaline Mob will play at 8 p.m. Friday at the Palladium, 261 Main St., Worcester. Also appearing will be In Harm's Way and Mindwalk Blvd. Tickets are $17 in advance, or $20 at the door.
