TELECOMWORLDWIRE-2 March 2004-MessageLabs observes a high infection rate for the recreation and leisure market(C)1994-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
Business e-mail security services supplier MessageLabs has completed a survey showing that the recreation and leisure industry is most affected by spam.
In total, one out of every 17 e-mails contained a virus when it comes to companies that operate in the leisure or recreation sector. This was followed by the healthcare sector with one out of every 29 e-mails being infected, education with one out of 36 and retail with one out of 36. The best performing industries were found to be building and construction firms with just one infected e-mail out of 118 and finance and banking with one out of 73.
The company claims that the rate of infected e-mails increases when the industry sector has more contact with members of the public.
The results were obtained by analysing the number of viruses stopped by MessageLabs' e-mail security service.
