Merit Health adds 6 new providers to its network.
Harriet L. Jones, M.D., B.S.N., F.A.P.W.C.A. Jones is a hospitalist for Merit Health Rankin. A graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, School of Medicine, Jones completed her Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of Mississippi Hospitals and Clinics. Jones completed her medical school prerequisites at Belhaven College, Prior to becoming a physician, Jones received her B.S.N. from the University of Southern Mississippi and was a registered nurse. Jones is an active member of the Mississippi State Medical Association and American College of Physicians, and is on the editorial board of Today's Wound Clinic. She has also reviewed, authored, and coauthored numerous publications for Advances in Skin and Wound Care and Today's Wound Clinic.
Akif Ahmed Khawaja, M.D.--Khawaja is a psychiatrist for Merit Health Central. Khawaja is a graduate of University of Karachi, Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, and completed his residency in Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association and on the member committee of early career psychiatrists.
Takita M. Brown Murriel, M.D.--Murriel, a native of Coldwater, is a primary care physician in Madison. Murriel received her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Mississippi University for Women and Master of Science in Biomedical Science from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she graduated cum laude. After attending medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville., Murriel completed her residency at Family Medicine Residency Center in Tupelo. Murriel is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Mississippi Academy of Family Physicians, and Mississippi State Medical Association. Formerly in the Navy Reserve, she has served as a Medical Platoon Leader for the Mississippi Army National Guard, Army Officer, and Combat Medic.
Michelle N. Taheri, M.D. --Taheri is an Obstetrician/Gynecologist in Canton. After studying abroad for one semester at La Universidad de Habana in Habana, Cuba, Taheri went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Spanish at the University of Mississippi. She completed her medical school prerequisites at the University of Southern Mississippi and medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, School of Medicine, where she graduated cum laude. During her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Taheri served for one year as Chief Resident. Taheri is a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Alan Jeffrey Torrey, M.D.--Torrey is a Pain Management Specialist in Vicksburg. He graduated from the University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in Anesthesiology and fellowship in Pain Management. Dr. Torrey completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Master of Science in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Louisiana Tech University. He is a member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesiology and Pain Management, Mississippi Society of Anesthesiologists, Mississippi State Medical Association, and the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
Janell Thompson Vinson, M.D.--Vinson is a board certified pediatrician in Vicksburg. A graduate of Tougaloo College, Vinson attended Brown Medical School and completed her residency and internship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Vinson is a member of the Sigma Xi Research Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Medical Association. Her work has been published in Pediatric Radiology and Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology.
