Mercer County Community College student Erika Morillo was a featured guest at the college's "Floyd Fete 2012." The annual event was held at the Carl A. Fields Center at Princeton University. The annual afternoon jazz event honors longtime community volunteers James (Jim) and Fannie Floyd and supports the Jim and Fannie Floyd Scholarship Fund. Morillo, a recipient of a Floyd scholarship, is studying for her associate degree in advertising/graphic design. An adult returning student with a young daughter, she notes that when she started at MCCC in spring 2011, she took all her classes at night while working during the day. The Floyd Scholarship has made it possible for her to enroll at Mercer full-time. Morillo says she is happy with her Mercer experience. She notes that her classes are giving her the transferrable skills she needs as she. pursues her bachelor's degree after completing her Mercer degree. Her career goals include working as an art director and teaching at the college level. She hopes to study at the graduate school level after she earns her bachelor's degree.
