Mendocino brews Eye of the Hawk.

The Mendocino Brewing Co. recently released the 1992 version of its award-winning Eye of the Hawk Select Ale on draught and in 750-ml. bottles. The Eye, as its is known, is a well-balanced ale which is brewed only three times a year - for Fourth of July, the brewery's anniversary party in August, and Octoberfest, according to the Hopland, CA-based brewer.

The Eye was entered in last year's Great American Beer Festival and was awarded the gold medal in the "Strong Ale" category.

"We're very proud of the skill and professionalism of our brewing staff, and especially gratified that our customers have made The Eye one of their favorite beverages," said Mendocino president Michael Laybourn. "After all, the customer's pleasure is the award we're really after. "

This edition of The Eye is brewed using both pale and caramel malts, which are then blended with several "exotic" hop varieties that result in an ale of "substantial body, rich malt character and a dry, subtle finish," Laybourn noted.

The release of The Eye also coincides with Mendocino's Ninth Anniversary Celebration to be held August 15.
