Memphis Motorsports Park: an update.
Although the major venues the motorsports park has to offer and near-capacity crowds at each event would be considered a success by most, Rittenberry believes more can be done and is determined to improve and grow each event and the facilities. Already, Rittenberry has presented his case to Shelby County Mayor A.C. Wharton, and has received Shelby County's support and encouragement.
To improve the motorsports park's facilities, events, and attendance, Rittenberry stresses that partnerships between the county and the local municipalities must be developed, maintained, and nurtured. The park has already developed a strong partnership and benefits from the support of the Shelby County Sherriff's Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the City of Memphis Police Department, and the City of Millington Police Department. As Rittenberry notes, without this support, entering and exiting the park during racing events would be a virtual nightmare.
The future looks bright for Memphis Motorsports Park. NASCAR is committed to the facility for the next five years. The Mid-South appears committed to growing with the motorsports park. More importantly, Shelby County has agreed to submit road changes to the Tennessee Department of Transportation as early as January 2005. If approved (which seems likely), then the proposed project will be finished by 2007. In the meantime, Memphis Motorsports Park continues to do what it does best: provide a valuable source of entertainment for racing fans across the nation and be a solid source of economic revenue for the area.
