Memories of days at the school; PS459 raised for gala funds PHOTOS DISPLAY.

An exhibition of old photos brought memories flooding back for former school pupils at Closeburn on Saturday.

The event in the village hall, organised by Closeburn Gala Committee as a fundraiser, covered the old Lakehead Primary, Wallace Hall Academy when it was at Closeburn and also Closeburn Primary.

A great turnout of people attended to take a peek at the 200 photographs on display of buildings, teachers, school sports teams, different classes and the WHA school magazine plus some historic information from the very start of WHA in 1723.

Artefacts from the school on show included old school magazines, documents and correspondence setting out the history of the school - and even the tawse.

Organiser Sarah Currie said: "It was an amazing day and a great turnout. We had a couple of older former pupils who attended, one of whom was very happy we had a photo of her as she attended the school during the war and not many photographs were taken then.

"Closeburn Primary pupils also did a virtual tour of the school so that former pupils could see what it is like now and to jog their memories."

A total of PS459 was raised which will go towards this year's gala.
