VICKI BELL Kansas City, Me.
I'm thrilled that Melissa Etheridge is recovering from her bout with breast cancer, and I'm certainly glad that she has raised awareness of this horrible disease. I myself am a BC survivor, having undergone six rounds of chemo and seven weeks of radiation. While it certainly wasn't a "walk in the park," my experience and the experience of many other women has not been as devastating as Melissa's. Perhaps her message regarding her treatment should be tempered with the acknowledgment that everyone is different and may not experience the same degree of difficulty. At this time chemotherapy and radiation are the best weapons we have to fight this disease. And although it wasn't the easiest thing in the world to get through, it was "doable," and if I had to, I'd go through it all again.
