Mehlman, former asst. AG joins law firm's real estate dept.

Frederick Mehlman, 38, former New York State Assistant Attorney General in charge of real estate financing, has joined the law firm of Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz as a partner.

In his new position, Mehlman will practice with the firm's real estate department and will specialize in the areas of real estate financing, real estate litigation and cooperative and condominium law.

In joining Wolf Haldenstein, Mehlman concludes a 12-year tenure with the Office of the Attorney General, where he managed the annual registration of more than $1 billion of real estate securities including cooperatives, condominiums and limited partnerships. Mehlman had also been in charge of litigation for the Attorney General.

In that capacity, he developed and implemented key legislation and policy concerning housing, finance and securities issues. Most recently, he was responsible for formulating the Attorney General's lawsuit against the Resolution Trust Corporation regarding the RTC's attempt to pre-empt New York's housing laws.

Mehlman's successor at the AG's office is Gary R. Connor.

Conner had been the bureau's section chief for enforcement and litigation since 1984. Prior to joining the Department of Law, he served as director of Litigation for the Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation from 1979-1984, and was with the Civil Division of the Legal Aid Society from 1973-79.
