Meghan Markle and Harry in mid-air scare as plane forced to abort landing at last minute; The Qantas charter plane was on approach to Sydney's airport with dozens of passengers as the drama unfolded.

Meghan Markleand Prince Harry were involved a mid-air scare as their plane was forced to pull up "seconds" before landing because another aircraft was on the runway.

The couple's Qantas charter plane was on approach to Sydney's airport with dozens of passengers, including royal staff and journalists, as the drama unfolded.

The flight captain, Nigel Rosser, announced that the aircraft were 'too close' and the plane wouldn't be able to land due to the "missed approach".

He joked to travellers: "You'll get another great view of the harbour."

After the missed approach, the passenger jet then circled and then landed safely on its second attempt.

ABC News reporter James Longman tweeted: "Missed approach for the Royal Charter back into Sydney. Another plane on the runway getting in the way. So we're coming around again."

Hello! royal editor Emily Nash added: "The pilot on Harry and Meghan's (and our) plane just had to abort the landing in Sydney seconds from wheels down because of another plane on the runway.

"Superb safe second attempt by @qantas Captain Nigel Rosser."

Journalist Omid Scobie wrote as the incident unfolded: "Our plane has aborted landing. Captain calling it a "missed approach" - there was another plane on the runway that was leaving too slowly. Back up we go."

Harry and Meghan were returning to Sydney after visiting the island nation of Tonga during the royal tour of Australia and the Pacific.

Mirror Online has contacted Qantas for comment.
