Meghan's surprise solo trip to see pal Serena in US Open.
THE Duchess of Sussex booked a last-minute trip to New York to see pal Serena Williams in the US Open - after staying up till 1am to watch her make the final.
Meghan, 38, boarded the plane alongside her security yesterday morning around 8am. Choosing to fly by commercial airline, a palace source said she had paid to "offset her carbon emissions" amid the controversy over her and Harry, 34, using private jets.
She will see Serena battle Canadian Bianca Vanessa Andreescu at the Arthur Ashe stadium at 9pm this evening. "It is last-minute.
Meghan is excited to support her friend," an insider said.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed the Sussexes hope to include five-month-old son Archie in engagements during their tour of South Africa, which starts on September 23.
A source confirmed: "The couple hope to include Archie at some point in the programme."
Harry will also visit Angola during the trip to see the legacy of his late mother Diana, who worked to highlight the threat of landmines.
