Medical outlets ignore incineration process for disposing of medical waste.
SARGODHA -- Mostly hospitals, clinics and laboratories in the city are ignoring prescribed procedure for disposing of hazardous medical waste.
The dangerous medical waste including needles, scalpels, laboratory stocks, pathological wastes etc. are being dumped openly at garbage heaps in surrounding residential areas and roadsides while resident are facing its bad impacts.
The residents said mostly hospitals operational in the city areas are ignoring incineration process to dispose of waste material properly. They demanded the authorities concerned to take this matter on priority.
A hospital owner said that no proper procedures have been adopted so far by the maximum hospitals, adding that they are ignoring proper procedure to avoid spending extra money for this purpose.
An official of District Headquarters (DHQ) Teaching Hospital said incinerator is the only solution for properly disposing of medical waste. A comprehensive policy decision should be made to bring small clinics and hospitals under hospital waste management system and there is dire need for installation of new incinerators, he added.
