Medical Destination Hawaii Proposes 50th State May Be Most Patriotic In USA; Hawaii has Parks, Monuments, Beaches, Picnics and Fireworks.

HONOLULU--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 1, 2003

In a state better known for its plate lunches, pineapples and poi than for hamburgers and baked beans, it may sound like a stretch to define Hawaii as one of the most patriotic, all-American states.

Steven Grant, CEO of Medical Destination Hawaii, proposes that perhaps the reason for the pride is that statehood was so long in coming. Hawaii became a U.S. Territory in 1898, but did not become a state until 1959. Tourism really took off after statehood, and today is one of Hawaii's largest industries, representing one of the world's most spectacular resort and meeting destinations.

Grant notes that over 30 major medical meetings and continuing education events are held in the Aloha State each year because of the perfect climate, exotic tropical scenery, wonderful accommodations, and international cuisine. Medical Destination Hawaii offers site selection and meeting planning for medical and healthcare professionals and their associates on all major islands in the Hawaiian Chain. MDH specializes in unique event design, development and production, all carefully coordinated by a highly skilled professional staff.

Because of its strategic location in the Pacific region, Hawaii and Pearl Harbor have for many years played an important role in America's defense, and important national monuments, museums and battleships such as the Arizona Memorial and the U.S.S. Missouri draw many thousands of visitors each year.

Another national monument, the National Cemetery of the Pacific, sits inside the former cauldron of a long dormant volcano high above Honolulu. The Hawaiians call the volcano Puowaina, but because of its bowl shape it is better known as Punchbowl to islanders and visitors alike.

If hiking and exploring the natural beauty of the islands is desired, Hawaii also boasts a multitude of parks and trails, including two national parks. Haleakala National Park is located on Maui, and the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is situated on the highest mountains of The Big Island of Hawaii.

If acquiring a tan is in the plan, Hawaii has the beaches on which many people would like to spend the July 4th weekend sunning themselves. Eight Hawaii beaches are listed on the 2003 National Healthy Beaches list, and Hawaii seldom fails to have one or more of its beaches listed on the annual list of the World's Most Beautiful Beaches.

And what would any 4th of July celebration be without fireworks? Spectacular displays are presented on all major islands, and result partly from the great interest and original development of fireworks by the Chinese. Hawaii has a large Chinese community that celebrates several major events in Hawaii each year with incredibly colorful and dramatic fireworks, the equal of which is not often seen anywhere else in the U.S.A.

So, while Hawaii may not be the place one thinks of when hearing about "amber waves of grain" and "purple mountains' majesty," it may be the unique destination where visitors can enjoy one of the most exotic and patriotic Independence Days on record.
