Medical Design Excellence Awards Calls for Entries.
LOS ANGELES -- The Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) program is accepting entries for its 2010 competition from companies and individuals worldwide involved in the design, engineering, manufacture, or distribution of finished medical devices or packaging products. Now in its thirteenth year, MDEA has awarded more than 350 groundbreaking products, including the Aquilion One dynamic volume computed tomography system; Bactec FX microbial detection system; INRatio2 blood coagulation monitor; Lifepak 15 monitor-defibrillator; LiquiBand Optima wound-closure adhesive; Lyric hearing aid; NuStep T5XR recumbent cross trainer; PolarWand endoscopic cryotherapy system; Rad-87 pulse CO-oximeter; Spectra MRSA chromogenic plated medium; Styla MicroLaser advanced dental laser system; TearLab osmolarity system; and TRUE2go portable glucose monitor.
Accepted in ten medical product categories, entries are evaluated by a multidisciplinary panel of jurors with expertise in engineering, medicine, human factors, industrial design, manufacturing, and other design and healthcare-related fields.

The early bird submission deadline for the 2010 MDEA competition is November 20, 2009. The standard deadline is December 18, 2009 and the final deadline is January 15, 2010. Winning products will be announced in April 2010, and honored with gold and silver awards at a ceremony during the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference and Exposition, June 8-10, 2010, in New York City's Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
